Moon Juice is shortlisted for the 2017 CLiPPA Award
Moon Juice, a collection of poems for children by Kate Wakeling with illustrations by Elīna Brasliņa, has been shortlisted for the 2017 CLiPPA Award.
Moon Juice has been shortlisted alongside Booked by Kwame Alexander, Wonderland: Alice in Poetry edited by Michaela Morgan, Jelly Boots, Smelly Boots by Michael Rosen, illustrated by David Tazzyman, and Zim Zam Zoom! by James Carter, illustrated by Nicola Colton.
The CLiPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) is awarded each year by a team of judges to a book of poetry for children. The 2017 judges described Moon Juice as ‘a debut collection of poetry that presents magical, strange and unlikely events in a confident and persuasive way.’
The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) has produced classroom resources for all the shortlisted titles, including teaching sequences and videos of the poets reading their poems. These can all be found on the Poetryline website, where schools can also register for the free CLiPPA shadowing scheme.
Moon Juice is the third book in the Emma Press’ new children’s poetry list, which launched in 2015 with the CLiPPA-shortlisted Falling Out of the Sky: Poems about Myths and Monsters. In July 2017 the Emma Press is publishing their first collection of children’s poetry in translation: The Noisy Classroom by Ieva Flamingo, translated by Žanete Vēvere Pasqualini, Sara Smith and Richard O’Brien.
