Submission ticket

This is the submission ticket for our May 2026 call for essays and short fiction. Before getting a submission ticket, make sure you have read and understood the submissions guidelines.

We limit submissions to one per author for every submission window. Translators can submit more than once if submitting for different authors.

Please only buy a submission ticket if you are submitting in the 11-17 May 2026 window, as it won’t be valid after this window closes.

We have a give-what-you-can tiered donation system alongside our submissions, so you can select the option you can best afford, from £0/£10/£15/£25.

We are a small independent publisher and need to fundraise to continue to operate as a business. 

The suggested donation is £15, but we understand that some people won’t be in the position to afford this, while other people might want to contribute more and ‘pay it forward’. It’s totally at your discretion, and the amount you select will not be listed against your submission and have no bearing on how our editors read them. There are also a limited number of £10 tickets.

Please make a note of your 5-digit order number after purchase (you don’t need the #, just the number). You will need to add this into your Submittable Form when submitting.

If the £0 option is no longer showing and you are unable to donate, then please email hello@theemmapress.com for a free entry number before Friday 15 May. Please bear in mind that we are are very small team: we may not be able to respond straight away, but if you email before Friday 15 May we will be able to provide a ticket before the submissions close.
