Emma Press publishes landmark series of pocket-sized poetry picture books
The Emma Press has launched the first batch of Bicki-Books, a landmark series of pocket-sized picture books for children originally published in Latvia by liels un mazs. Each Bicki-Book features a classic Latvian children’s poem, newly translated into English, with illustrations from some of Latvia’s leading illustrators. The six titles include Ice Cream and Naughty Gnat. The English publication of the Bicki-Books is supported by a grant from the Latvian Writers Union.

The Emma Press has acquired English-language rights to two Latvian titles and one Estonian title. For the Latvian titles, they received a grant from the Latvian Writers’ Union (Latvijas Rakstnieku Savienība) and Latvia’s Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
The Emma Press acquires translation rights for two Latvian titles
The Emma Press is among the nine publishers awarded grants in the latest round of the “Support for Foreign Publishers Publishing Latvian Literature” programme, organised by the Latvian Writers Union (LWU) and financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. The grants cover translation and production costs and are linked to Latvia’s participation in the 2018 London Book Fair, as one of the Market Focus countries.
